Back on Land / Annie Leibovitz

HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL!
ALL THE BEST TO EACH OF YOU IN 2009!

We have returned from the cruise, and are enjoying a week in Melbourne Beach with Axel's mom prior to returning to Cali. I will be posting about the cruise later - there is almost too much to tell, and so many funny incidents that have to be written about. I kept a small journal for each days adventures, and sometimes misadventures, so I wouldn't forget a thing! But for now, here's something yummy.....

We got back on January 9th, and almost immediately upon arriving at Barbara's house, we had to gussie-up again for the opening of the Annie Leibovitz : Women http://www.nytimes.com/library/photos/leibovitz/interview.html show at the Brevard Art Musuem. Barbara is a Trustee of the musuem, and actually was an original founder of the museum in 1978 with a few other women. They bought the old Melbourne Police station, and literally cleaned, scrubbed, painted the building, and started to commission paintings. Post Secret http://postsecret.blogspot.com/ had an exhibit here not to long ago, so they have come along way!

From the Musem website:
Today, almost 30 years later, the Brevard Art Museum has tripled the exhibition area and provides modern technical conservation methods and storage areas as our collection increases in size. Significant loan collections can be brought to the Museum. In addition, children and adults now enjoy the opportunity to study and create art in the Museum School at the Renee Foosaner Education Center which housed a portion of the original Museum.

The exhibition was amazing, and since it was the opening, only museum members & their guests were invited. Annie's pictures were inspiring, shocking and thought provoking, & led to some lively discussion. We were no longer dragging and complaining how tired we were!

That's all for now....we are currently cooking our traditional Christmas goose dinner, since we were not together for the actual holiday.
Bon Appetite, I say!
