SPIRITS OF THE DEAD
by Edgar Allan Poe
(1827)
Thy soul shall find itself alone
'Mid dark thoughts of the grey tomb-stone;
Not one, of all the crowd, to pry
Into thine hour of secrecy.
Be silent in that solitude,
Which is not loneliness- for then
The spirits of the dead, who stood
In life before thee, are again
In death around thee, and their will
Shall overshadow thee; be still.
The night, though clear, shall frown,
And the stars shall not look down
From their high thrones in the Heaven
With light like hope to mortals given,
But their red orbs, without beam,
To thy weariness shall seem
As a burning and a fever
Which would cling to thee for ever.
Now are thoughts thou shalt not banish,
Now are visions ne'er to vanish;
From thy spirit shall they pass
No more, like dew-drop from the grass.

OK, so here's the scoop on the "costume party" from two weekends ago. Dibs gets an e-vite from Jules (Bill's old roomate's ex) and Bill and I go with him. Bill is dressed as Joe Dirt with mullet wig, cut-off flannel shirt and Led Zep Tee. I wore my huge afro wig, pot lei, tie-dye gear and Jamaica jacket. Dibs wears an "I'm Rick James Bitch" tee, white feather boa, jerry curl wig and rock star sunglasses. We get to the party and at the door we discover that the costume reference in the e-vite was meant as a joke. It was awkardly funny, but still had a good time kicking the half keg with our pimp cups and showing those twenty-somethings a thing or two about partying!
I've seen you guys out dressed like that on a school night! Costumes indeed....
I am sure Bill was PISSED on the whole costume thing, but I think you guys certainly had a better time dressed up than the rest of the party :)
I really hope you took some pictures...did Bill actually drink from a pimp cup?
